Bennett ElementaryBennett Elementary opened in the fall of 2000. It is located at 2000 58th Avenue South. The
school is located in one of the newer areas that is being developed in south Fargo. Bennett
currently has 373 students enrolled in grades 1-5 for a total of 17 sections. It has the capacity
of housing 28 sections of students. Special services are offered as well as Reading Recovery
in grade one. Before and after school programs are available to the students at Bennett
Elementary.
The design of the facility lends itself to current best educational practices as the grade
sections are organized in a pod arrangement with a commons area and a small group room.
This allows the classrooms to work cooperatively within their pod area. The facility was
designed to incorporate technology within each pod area and also includes a computer lab,
VCR/DVD broadcasting to classrooms from the library upon request, and in-house
broadcasting via TV capabilities.
The site of the facility (30 acres) was developed by the Fargo Pubic Schools, Fargo Park
District, and FM Athletics and includes two football/soccer fields with lights; two baseball
fields, six tennis courts, two basketball courts, two ice skating areas and two playground
areas. -
Nativity ElementarySchool History
The Church of the Nativity Parish and Shool were established in September, 1960. The parish school opened serving students in grades fist through eigth. The school enjoyed a relatively slow but stavle growth pattern through the early years. By the late 70's and the early 80's growth became very rapid as Fargo expanded to the south. Meanwhile, Fargo's inner-city Catholic schools declined in enrollment. A city-wide Catholic School Board, developed in 1981, made the decision in 1984 to move the 7th and 8th grades to neighboring St. Anthony's school to leave room for greater growth in the lower grades at Nativity.
A Kindergarden program was then initiated at Nativity School. The Fargo Catholic City School Board paved the way for the establishment of the Fargo Catholic Schools Network, our present structure. Shanley High School was incorporated into the FCSN in 1989, completing a unified K-12 Catholic School System. In the past decade the Fargo Catholic School Board has encouraged collaboration among parishes and among communities.
Nativity School presently serves students from three southside Fargo parishes, West Fargo parishes, surrounding communities, as well as the general population. Enrollment continues to mirror the development in the city of Fargo. Through the dedication and commitment of families, the Presentation Sisters, priests, lay faculty and staff, Nativity School had provided a strong foundation for children throughout the years.

Shanley High SchoolCatholic Education was established in Fargo when the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary opened St. Joseph's Academy in 1882. The sisters closed this school when they launched St. John's Free School and Sacred Heart College and Academy. St. John's was the forerunner of four parish schools (Holy Spirit, Nativity, St. Mary's and St. Anthony's), as well as of Presentation South and Presentation North Junior High Schools (now merged as Sullivan Middle School). Sacred Heart Academy became Shanley High School.
